Rocky Boy schools disputes defendant coached at those schools

UPDATE: Rocky Boy Schools Superintendent Voyd St. Pierre issued a release this afternoon saying Stone Child College assistant basketball coach Christopher Brown, born in 1988, never coached in any form at Rocky Boy schools

A release from the U.S. Attorney Office for the District of Montana and documents filed in federal courts said Brown was an assistant basketball coach at Stone Child College who also helped with basketball at Rocky Boy’s high school and middle school and is accused of having sex with a minor.

Brown is accused of sexual abuse of a minor for having sex with a pre-high school-aged girl on multiple occasions.

"Christopher Brown was NEVER hired, worked as, helped, volunteered, or was associated in any capacity, as a coach in any of the Rocky Boy School's athletic programs,” The release from St. Pierre said. "In October and November of 2O18, this individual was compensated as a tutor for a total of 24 hours, working in a public setting with students and other adult tutors in our after-school tutoring program."

The U.S. attorney’s office confirmed this afternoon that, according to its information, Brown had helped at the Rocky Boy schools.

Brown made his initial appearance in federal District Court in Great Falls Tuesday, and is scheduled to have a detention hearing Thursday, entries on a federal court website report.

A press release from the office of U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana Kurt Alme said the case against Brown will be presented to a grand jury for indictment.

According to a court document, Brown was working as an assistant basketball coach at Stone Child College on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation and tutored and helped coach basketball at Rocky Boy High School and Rocky Boy Middle School.

The statement he helped coaching at Rocky Boy is what the statement from the schools disputes.

A court document said that through his work as a coach and through relationships with friends, he became acquainted with the victim of the alleged acts.

The document alleged that Brown and the girl had sex on six occasions between July 2018 and November 2019.
