Registration open for second annual Havre Walk4Water

Editor’s note: This version updates to an easier URL to register for the Havre Global 6k Walk4Water.

Registration is open in an event set to help provide clean drinking water to people around the world.

"Every Step You Take is One They Won't Have to," the second annual Havre 6k Walk4Water, is set for Saturday, May 16, starting at Baltrusch Nature Trail at 9 a.m.

Havre Walk4Water Team Captain April Taber said the 6k Walk4Water is a global event that was created by World Vision, a non-profit Christian organization

It costs $50 to register and people interested can sign up or donate at https://www.teamworldvision.org/team/walk4water-havre or register through the event's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/s/havres-2nd-annual-6k-for-water/880730059009712/ .

"All of the funds raised go to World Vision to help provide clean water to underdeveloped countries," she said. "Six kilometers, which is 3.72 miles, is the average distance people walk in developing countries for water and often that water is unsafe to drink."

She added that the registration fee is set at $50 is because $50 provides clean water for one person for their whole life.

She said the walk this is not a timed event, but prizes will be available for participants, including a free T-shirt for those who register.

"It's so important for people to get clean water. Every day almost 1,000 children die from diarrhea caused by contaminated water," Taber said. "It's a big deal, and the fact is that here in Havre, we can still be part of something that has a global impact."

She said she would like to continue this event every year. 2019 was the first Havre Walk4Water, and it raised $2,675.

This year's goal is to raise $4,000, she said.

People who have questions or would like more information can contact her at the event's Facebook page.

"I just want people to be aware of the impact that they are having on people all across the world," Taber said. "It's pretty phenomenal when you can be a part of something like that."
