Northern football announces first Class of 2020 signees

National Signing Day was a week ago, but Montana State University-Northern head football coach Andrew Rolin is still hot on the recruiting trail. Still, earlier this week, Rolin announced the first portion of the 2020 Lights' recruiting class.

And the list is highlighted by Havre High All-State offensive lineman Case Henderson, as well as NCAA Division I transfer Dorian Miles from FCS playoff power Kennesaw State.

Henderson (6-4, 270) is one of five Montana players to sign with the Lights so far. Joining Henderson from the Treasure State is Jacolby Mattoon (6-0, 230), an All-State defensive end from Class A state champion Miles City.

Northern has also inked a pair of Great Falls athletes with MSU-N ties. Trey Short (5-11, 180) is a wide receiver from Great Falls High, and is the younger brother of current MSU-N wrestler Chase Short. Lane VanderMars, a 6-2, tight end from GFH is also joining the program, and he too has ties to the Havre area.

Northern also inked Class C All-State quarterback Carson Baker from Park City. Baker will project as a linebacker for the Lights, while Rolin went north of the border and got Blake Gibb a 6-2, 245-pound defensive lineman from Lethbridge, Alberta.

Meanwhile, Miles is one of two transfers joining the Lights. Miles (6-2, 203), who played at run-heavy Kennesaw, is one of two WR's on the out-of-state list, the other being Ashton Callaway (6-1, 166) from Houston. The other transfer for the Lights as Bryce Edmonson, a 6-0, 220-pound linebacker, who played at Georgetown College in Kentucky.

Rounding out the first batch of Northern signees is Sawyer Zook (6-0, 170), a kicker from Castle Rock, Colorado, Aiden Hoyt (5-11, 155), a CB from Vancouver, Washington, Izayah Boss (5-7, 170, RB) and Shane Freund (6-6, 280, OL), both from Bothell, Washington and Jesus Raygoza (6-4, 285), an OL from Moses Lake, Washington.

Rolin also said that the Lights will plan on signing many more recruits in the next few weeks.
