JoJo Standing Rock and the Rocky Boy Stars are headed to the Northern B Divisional after finishing third at the District 1B tournament last week in Cut Bank.

With berths in the Northern B on the line, there was a lot at stake in Class B boys basketball this past weekend.

The District 1B tournament was held in Cut Bank, with the Rocky Boy Stars reaching for a title and a good spot in the Northern B Divisionals, while the 2B tournament took place in Malta, where the top-seeded Harlem Wildcats looked to pick up a 2B title.

In the 2B, the Harlem Wildcats put forth a solid pair of games, placing second in the 2B.

First off, the Wildcats opened the tournament with a first-round bye but met the Glasgow Scotties in the semifinals Friday. Harlem beat the Scotties 75-60 to advance to the 2B championship. R.J. Ramone led the Wildcats with 24 points, followed by Brad Cichosz' 16.

But the Wildcats fell in the 2B championship against Wolf Point Saturday 68-58. Harlem would take second in the 2B. Cichosz led the Wildcats with 17 points, followed by Ramone with 16.

Harlem head coach Geno LeValdo was proud of the effort his team put in throughout the tournament.

"The first game against Glasgow, we came out firing," LeValdo said. "We slowed a bit at one point but maintained our lead. We played pretty good. Against Wolf Point, we came out pretty slow. We were playing the catch-up game. They pretty much hounded Brad Cichosz all night and stuck by him hip to hip to slow him up."

In the 1B, Rocky Boy head coach Adam Demontiney and his team had a good weekend, as the Stars finished third. The boys beat Cut Bank 66-60 Saturday to take third place in the tourney. Blake Cantrell led the Stars with 22 points, followed by Benji Crebs with 17.

But, before the consolation game, the boys played the Wolves in round one Thursday, beating Cut Bank 55-45 to move on to the semifinals. This time, Joe Demontiney put up 17 points to lead the Stars, while Cantrell followed right behind with 16.

In the semifinals against Fairfield Friday, the boys were sent to the loser's bracket in a 74-65 loss. In this game, Crebs dropped 31 points for a huge game. The Stars then beat Great Falls Central in a loser-out bout 69-42, with Cantrell at the helm with an 18-point game.

The Rocky Boy Stars (13-9) will meet the Harlem Wildcats (17-3) in round one of the Northern B Divisionals Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Malta.
