Havre High bringing classic to the stage this week

The Havre High School drama department is reaching back in time to bring a classic to the stage in Havre.

Its production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde premieres Thursday at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Director Angela Pratt said the story is a classic comedy that has stood the test of time.

"It's the story of two bachelors, John 'Jack' Worthing and Algernon 'Algy' Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Ernest," she said.

She said what she enjoys about the production is that it's old humor and it makes for fun costumes.

The accents, understanding the language, and in turn the humor and how to deliver it has made this production challenging, she added.

The production will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

"I always try to bring a new look or concept to each new production," Pratt said. "You will have to come to see for yourself what unique aspect we have chosen for this show."

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, and $7 for adults, and can be purchased at the door.
