Havre schools, Boys & Girls Club providing meals but facilities off limits

With all K-12 public schools closed in the state due to COVID-19, Havre students still have some service available for meals.

Havre Public Schools Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. at Highland Park Early Primary School located on the north side of the cafeteria doors and at Lincoln-McKinley Primary School in the front entrance. The meals will be only be served any children that are 18 and younger.

Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line will also be providing curbside to-go meal service starting today from 4 to 5 p.m., for children 3 to 17. The service is for all children, they don’t need to be a club member.

Havre Public Schools Superintendent Andy Carlson said for people to refer to the public schools website for updates at https://www.blueponyk12.com and that they are trying to contact all of the students and their families.  

“Our goal is to make contact with 100 percent of our children,” he said. “We are working on what we might be able to do going forward.”

“We are going to need your help reaching everyone,” the post on the website said. “Please text or call your friends to make certain they are checking in on our website.  This is really important. If you know one of your friends or a family that does not have an electronic device or a means to connect to the internet let us know by leaving a message with our webmaster.”

Havre students and their families who have not been contacted are asked to call 395-6719.

“Do not call this number for general questions,” the post on the website said. “This is the number we want you to call to help us get in touch with you.”

Carlson said what the faculty and staff will be doing over the next two weeks will change daily and that right now only food service and boiler checks are allowed. 

No one is to be in their facilities, he added.  

“One of the best things we can do to disinfect is to remain home,” Carlson said.
