Snowball challenge accepted and complete

Border Patrol, sheriff deliver 80 pounds of food to food bank

Press release

Local law enforcement delivered the results of taking advantage of some snow to the local food bank.

In January, the acting chief of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Blaine Sector Washington issued a challenge to all northern Border Chief Patrol Agents via Twitter.

The challenge was simple, to raise food for a local food bank with a snowball challenge.

Havre Sector Chief Sean McGoffin, along with Hill County Sheriff Jamie Ross, accepted and completed the challenge, by donating 80 pounds of food to the Havre Community Food Bank.

To participate in the challenge, the rules stated someone needed to throw 10 snowballs at McGoffin. For every snowball that struck the chief, he would donate 10 pounds of food.

McGoffin teamed up with Ross, who threw the snowballs, and was hit 8-out-of-10 attempts.

"This was an excellent way to do a lighthearted activity for an excellent cause," McGoffin said. "With the lack of snow this year, we had to wait for the right opportunity to complete the challenge. I am grateful for Sheriff Ross participating in this endeavor and pelting me with snowballs for this challenge.

"We have a wonderful working partnership with our community and Sheriff Ross,"McGoffin added. "Working with Sheriff Ross and his department on activities like this helps make our community a great place to live."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Individuals can report suspicious activity to Border Patrol by calling 800 BE ALERT - 800-232-5378. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation's borders at and between official ports of entry.
