Public comment opens for proposed OHV grant applications

HELENA — Montana State Parks is seeking public comment on proposed 2020 Off-Highway Vehicle — OHV — grant proposals for the current grant application cycle which closed Feb. 28.

Public comments will be accepted through Thursday, April 30, at 5 p.m.

  The OHV program received fourteen grant requests totaling $224,485. Approximately $152,000 in OHV grant funding is available for 2020. Montana’s Off-Highway Vehicle Program supports projects such as trail maintenance, signs, trail stewards, ethics education, noxious weed control, safety and mapping efforts. Grant awards are allocated by Montana State Parks with recommendations from the citizen-based Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee. The OHV program is funded through a portion of the state gas tax, non-resident OHV permits and OHV registration fees.

The public is invited to comment on the funding requests. Public Comments are due by Thursday, April 30 at 5 p.m. To comment online, people can visit http:// stateparks.mt.gov and click on “Public Comment & Notices” in the right-hand navigation.
