Thursday tornado siren due to malfunction

Police to investigate malfunction, say no cause for concern

Thursday evening an emergency tornado siren in Havre went off, but Havre Chief of Police Gabe Matosich said it was a malfunction and that there was no tornado.

The police department put out an announcement on its Facebook page shortly after the malfunction saying that no emergency existied.

Matosich said he wasn’t sure whether it was the west or east end alarms, or both.

“We’re going to look into it later today to see why it malfunctioned,” he said.

He said they have a suspected explanation for the malfunction.

“We’re thinking it was probably the lighting that occurred in the area,” Matosich said.

He said, for now, no concern exists that malfunctions of this nature will continue, but the department will know more once their investigation is completed.

“Once we look at it and see ,we’ll be able to determine a little bit more, but there’s really no concern right at this point,” Matosich said.
