From Tee to Green
Golf has returned to Havre, and two weeks in, I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who is doing their part in helping the sport we love co-exist with efforts to curtail the COVID-19 pandemic.
At both Prairie Farms and Beaver Creek Golf Course, both the courses, and the patrons have been doing an awesome job of adhering to the "new normals" in the game of golf.
First, a big thank you to the ownership, and staff at both courses, for diligently enforcing the guidelines that are helping make golf a safe recreation and sport to play. Without you guys enforcing this stuff, we wouldn't be safe out there.
From there, though, it's up to the golfers themselves to follow the rules, and so far, from my observation, it looks like everybody is doing just that. So please, folks, please keep it up. Do things like come to the course with clean hands, even bring your own hand sanitizer if you can. Please continue to ride in carts alone unless it's with a member of you're own household, and, please, keep social distancing in foursomes the same way. Meaning, if your playing with people who aren't members of your own household, then follow the standard six-foot rule.
If we keep doing these things now, then we will get our normal ways of playing golf back, sooner rather than later. And by normal, I mean things like golf league, tournaments, handshakes and high fives.
I know we all probably miss those things when we're out on the course, but, right now, we need to keep doing what we're doing in order to have even a chance of getting those things back.
I'd also like to again take this time to remind all of you who play the game locally, and that includes our friends in Chinook, Harlem and down in Fort Benton, that, if you want something published in this column, don't hesitate to hit me up. Whether it's updates about your course, as it relates to COVID-19, or otherwise, or whether you want to report a hole-in-one, or you have a great golf story you want to share, as always, I would love to publish it.
This column has never just been about my own thoughts, or to report league scores. I've always tried to include anything and everything about our golfing community in this column, and, now, more than ever, getting information out to our local golfers is key. So again, golf course owners, league secretaries, or golfers in general, if you've got something for me, email me at [email protected], and I will be sure to get it in.
