Results released from school mail-in elections

Havre, Chinook pass mill levies

Results are trickling in from school elections, held as all-mail ballots this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Havre Daily News has obtained results from several local elections, and will publish other results as they become available.

In Havre, incumbent school board trustees Curtis Smeby, Cindy Erickson and Timothy Scheele retained their seats as the three highest vote-getters.

Erickson received 1,842 votes, Scheele 1,838 and Smeby 1,598. Challenger Erin Pulse received 1,328.

The Havre High School mill levy passed with 1,440 votes in favor and 1,068 against. The levy is for $46, 714, 1.8 mills, which equates to an annual increase in taxes of $2.44 for a $100,000 home or $4.88 for a $200,000 home.

Chinook passed three levies in an election that had three candidates running for three seats. Frank Billmayer received 365 votes, Mitzi Cecrle received 304 and Kevin Spudic received 167.

Voters passed a Chinook High School general fund levy 421-215. The levy is for $12,249.80, about 1.47 mills. That equates to an annual increase of about $1.98 in taxes for a $100,000 home and $3.97 for a $200,000 home.

A Chinook High School Building Reserve Levy also passed, 382-260. The levy is for $40,000 per year for five years, about 5.06 mills. That equates to an annual increase of about $1.98 in taxes for a $100,000 home and $3.97 for a $200,000 home.

And the Chinook voters passed an elementary school general fund levy 366-161.  The increase is $7,934.80, about 1.69 mills. That equates to an annual increase of about $2.28 in taxes for a $100,000 home and $4.56 for a $200,000 home.

In Harlem, three candidates were runing for two positions on the school board.

The winners of the seats were Johnathan Walker with 202 votes and Michael King with 187 votes, while Dean A. Doney Jr. received 147 votes.

Rocky Boy Public Schools had five candidates running for two seats, with Laurie A. Sunchild winning one with 92 votes and Michelle Sangrey the other with 86 votes.

Incumbent Teddy Russette III took 80 votes, while Jody A. Lamere received 47, Samuel Camper 25 and one write-in vote was cast for Peggy Aquino and Sharon Cantrell each.
