Big Sandy's Ryan Roth inks with Rocky men's basketball

Big Sandy's Ryan Roth had a huge senior year, and, as he graduates, he also has huge news about his future.

On Monday, Rocky Mountain College announced that it has signed Roth to play basketball for the Battlin' Bears of head coach Bill Dreikosen.

Roth is a 6-1 guard, who plans on majoring in geology at RMC.

"Ryan is a proven winner that we are looking forward to having join our basketball program," Dreikosen said. "He can score and has the ability to get to the free throw line. Ryan is a tremendous kid and a great student that we believe will make our program better."

Roth is certainly a scorer. He averaged 20 points for the Pioneers in what was a renaissance season of sorts. He helped lead the Pioneers to a third-place finish in the District 9C, and their first trip to the Northern C since 2010. In Great Falls, Roth averaged nearly 30 points per game, helping the Pioneers get all the way to the championship game against rival Fort Benton. Big Sandy would narrowly miss out on a trip to state, though, eventually losing a challenge game to Belt.

However, Roth capped an excellent run in which he was named Class C All-State, and All 9C for the third year in a row.

Roth's winter followed an excellent season on the football field in which Big Sandy made the playoffs for the third year in a row. Roth, a wide receiver and defensive back, earned Northern C All-Conference honors as well.

But basketball was where Roth's heart was, and his senior season included him averaging 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. And those numbers helped him earn an offer from the Battlin' Bears.
