Once upon a time, this Blue Pony really was the fastest man in Montana
Former Havre High star sprinter Steve Heberly wins the 100-meter dash at the 2003 Class A state track meet in Missoula. Heberly broke the state record in the 100, and also won gold medals in the 200 and 400 meters on his way to one of the top single-day performances in prep track and field history in Montana. Heberly would then go on to have a standout career on the track for the Montana State Bobcats.
This weekend in Laurel, the best track and field athletes in Class A would have gathered for the 2020 Class A state meet, had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic that ended up wiping out the spring sports season.
And while there are a lot of great athletes in Montana prep track and field right now, and many who have put their names in the record books already, few would have put on a show this weekend like Havre Blue Pony great Steve Heberly did in 2003.
