Havre Girls Fastpitch will start league play next week

Next Tuesday, the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club will make their long-awaited season and home debut. But even before that, girls fastpitch softball will be returning to the diamond.

This weekend, the Havre Girls Fastpitch Association travel teams will be hosting games at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. On Saturday, the Havre 12U teams will play Glasgow at 10 a.m. and noon, while Havre 10U, 12U and 14U teams will host Lewistown for games Sunday. Games start at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The games will be the first in Havre since the coronavirus pandemic brought local sports to a halt in March. Of course, things won't be normal at the ballpark this weekend however.

According to Havre's Steph Huse, a maximum of 50 people will be allowed at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field this weekend. Huse said any parents of players will be limited to one side of the field, meaning Havre parents in one set of bleachers and visiting parents in another. She also noted that, between players, parents, coaches and workers, they will be at or near the 50-person limit and strict social distancing will be expected.

Huse also gave an update on the HGFA leagues as it pertains to the coronavirus. Tee-ball, which is for girls pre-kindergarten, Rookie League, which is for girls in first and second grades, and C-League, which is for girls in grades three and four, have all been cancelled for this season.

However, B-League and A-League will begin their seasons next week. B-League is for grades five and six, and A-League is for grades seven and eight. Those leagues will begin their season on Monday.
