HYBA leagues finally set to begin play

It's taken some time, but the Havre Youth Baseball Association is getting back to business.

The Havre Northstars are now three weeks into their revamped American Legion season, and now, local leagues are about to begin playing after a lengthy delay due to the cornonavirus pandemic.

HYBA Minors, Majors and Babe Ruth leagues would normally be nearing the end of their city league seasons, but in the new normal they're just getting started.

The Majors, formally known as A-League, will start their season Tuesday night. With three teams in the league this season, they'll have a four-week regular season and then conclude the season with the Majors Tournament July 10-12 at Lions Field.

Babe Ruth is also slated to begin this week and wrap up the season early next month.

Meanwhile, Minors is about to start their season at Elks Park. There are four teams in the league this summer, and play will begin June 24. The regular season will be four weeks, and the HYBA Minors Tournament will take place July 16-19, also at Elks Park.

The Sixth Avenue Memorial Field is also returning to action. Last week, the Havre Girls Fastpitch Association began league play for A and B league. A-League is for girls grades 7-8 and B-League is for girls grades 3-4. Their city tournaments will also be held next month.

Travel fastpitch softball has also returned. The action started last week when Havre was the host for games over the weekend, and the Havre 16U travel team will be in action this week, hosting games against Lewistown Tuesday night.

Back at Legion Field, the Havre Northstars are home to host Tri-County in a Northern A doubleheader Tuesday night, while the Havre Northstars B team plays in a tournament at Conrad this weekend.
