Local Golf Report: NALSF kicks off golf tourneys

The first golf tournament to be played in Havre since the coronavirus pandemic began was held last Saturday at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

Of course, it wasn't a completely normal day on the links for the 2020 NALSF Tournament, as social distancing measures, a reduced field and other pandemic related golf precautions were in effect. But nevertheless, I'm here to say, since I played, and not well I might add, that, despite the changes we're all still getting used to when it comes to golfing during COVID-19, the Northern tournament was a blast.

Certainly, the Young Law team composed of Jared Wiegel, Lorrie and A.J. Keller and Jamie Young had a blast as the team took home top honors in the 18-hole scramble. The team netted a 53 to win the tournament. Northern Plains Insurance, made up of Kyle Sheppard, Chad Edgar, Bill Keller and Chad Hedges finished in second place, while Northern Montana Hospital, composed of Gary Wagner, Jeff Jensen, Jim Kirkpatrick and Mike Purkett, finished third.

Yes, it was a good day, with great weather, and for those of us who played, we need to say a big thank you to everyone who helped put the tournament on. Thanks to all the volunteers and workers who helped make the first Havre golf tourney of the year, a fun one.

Last week in league play, Myers Ranch/Baltrusch Land and Cattle, and Wagner Plumbing shared high-team honors in Tuesday night men's league at Prairie Farms. Both teams scored 21 points, while Kyle Sheppard was low gross with a one-under par 35, and Barry Zanto and Jake Myers shared low net at 35.

Last Wednesday night saw HUB Insurance earn high team with 22.5 points. Jeremy Jensen fired an even-par 36 to take low gross, while Steve Mariani was low net with a 32.

In ladies league at Prairie Farms last Thursday, Rock Solid had 22.5 points for high-team honors. The team was composed of Emi Smith, Wendy Tilleman, Peggy Lamb and Teresa Miller. Ali Ward was low gross with a 41, while a big shoutout goes to our boss here at the Havre Daily News, Stacy Mantle on earning low-net honors for the night with a 31. Good job, Stacy.

At Beaver Creek Golf Course last Thursday night in men's league. Gram's Ice Cream was high team with 26.5 points. Kellen Malone, Chris Owens, Tim McLean and Ryan Callahan composed the team. Malone was low gross after shooting a great round of even-par, while Andrew Wright was low net with a 31.
