Garage fire in Savoy extinguished

Havre Daily News Staff

Harlem Volunteer Fire Department responded to a garage fire at Savoy Wednesday at 5:05 p.m., a release from the department says.

Seven members of the fire department responded with two brush trucks, a county engine and a water tender, along with multiple trucks brought by fire crews from Chinook and Fort Belknap. The fire was contained and extinguished by 8:30 p.m., the release says, with the interior of the structure salvageable.

Savoy is about 12 miles east of Harlem on Montana Highway 396, also called Old Savoy Road.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says north-central Montana, east almost to the North Dakota border is abnormally dry. Winds in the area were gusting into the mid to high teens with peaks in the low 20s, National Weather Service reported, with temperatures in the mid 70s.

No cause for the fire was provided.

Thank goodness the home didn't burn and the family is safe. Imagine all the good stuff they had in their garage though. Our Baker family friends are safe.
