U.S. Census Bureau hiring in Montana

It is not too late to apply for a part-time position with the 2020 Census.

Working as a temporary census taker is a great way to earn extra income and help the community.

The Census Bureau is currently recruiting thousands of census takers, also called enumerators, to visit housing units and other dwellings to collect responses from those who did not self-respond online, by phone or by mail.

Later this summer, census takers are scheduled to begin visiting non-responding households. The health and safety of Census Bureau staff and the public is of the utmost importance. Census takers are required to receive social distance training and personal protective equipment.

• Valid Social Security number and email address.

• Valid driver’s license and a vehicle, unless public transportation is readily available.

• Access to a computer with internet access to complete training.

• Pass FBI background and fingerprint check.

• Follow strict guidelines and confidentiality laws.

• Take lifetime oath to protect the confidentiality of data.

Why the 2020 Census is Important

• The U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the population every 10 years.

• The 2020 Census counts everyone who lives in the United States as of April 1, 2020 — Census Day.

• Census statistics are used to determine the number of seats each state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives.

• Census statistics inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local and federal lawmakers annually for the next 10 years.
