"Rising Strong" in the month of September

Virtual book discussion group set for suicide awareness month

Press release

September is National Suicide Awareness Month and an easy way to celebrate it this year is by joining a virtual book club. The Hill County Suicide Awareness Coalition and the Havre-Hill County Library are partnering up to offer a virtual discussion on the book “Rising Strong” by Brené Brown.

As described by Brown herself, “The physics of vulnerability is simple: If we are brave enough, often enough, we will fall. ‘Rising Strong’ is a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of struggle gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and the clearest path to a wholehearted life.”

Participants are asked to purchase their own copy of the book or audio book and start reading/listening. They should register by Friday, Aug. 28, and mark their calendar for the virtual discussions Sept. 12 and Sept. 26 from 3-4 p.m. It is vital to register so that participants can get the login information for the Zoom meetings.

Participants also have an opportunity to win a prize. For every virtual discussion people attend, people name will be entered into a drawing for different prizes.

People can register with Jasmine Carbajal by calling 406-400-2333 or emailing her at [email protected].

Brown is a research professor at The University of Houston. She is also a visiting professor in management at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. Her research is focused on studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy. She is the author of five No. 1 New York Times bestsellers: “The Gifts of Imperfection,” “Daring Greatly,” “Braving the Wilderness,” “Dare to Lead and Rising Strong.”
