Letter to the Editor - United Way crab boil canceled, help still needed

Did you know that in one year, donations to United Way of Hill County touched more than 45,300 lives in our community? Thank you for your support and kindness, as we continue to live united together.

United Way supports non-profit funded partners that strive to serve those in need in Hill County by providing services and support through education, health care, and financial guidance.

Due to the pandemic and safety protocols still in place we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Annual Crab Boil Fundraiser. The Crab Boil has been a popular and very successful fundraiser for us. In its place, we will hold an online auction the latter part of September. Check out our Facebook page for more information.

Our neighbors’ needs are even greater this year than ever! For instance, the Havre Senior Center has seen a significant increase in home-delivered meal requests for Havre, Gildford, Rudyard and Rocky Boy. They are delivering an average of 340 meals daily. The Salvation Army has seen a larger-than-ever number of people seeking funds for lodging as people are not able to stay with friends and family and rental assistance for those who are out of work. Their clients are also requesting cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, etc. The Havre Food Bank has served 4,700 individuals from Jan. 1 through June 30. Emergency referral boxes increased from two to three per family and additional boxes are given on a case by cases basis. The Food Bank also works closely with the Domestic Violence and Hill County Health Department with food distribution.

As you can see, support and commitment to Hill County is needed! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will aid in sustaining our great community.
