From the Courts - State District Court: Man resentenced again for stealing from employer

James Christopher Dahl Jr. was resentenced again for stealing money from a local store.

He pleaded guilty in a plea agreement Oct. 10, 2017, to a charge of theft alleging he took money from a safe in a store where he was a night supervisor.

In November 2017, state District Judge Dan Boucher imposed a five-year deferred imposition of sentence and ordered him to pay $9,960 plus fees for restitution.

In December 2018, Dahl admitted violating conditions of his release and Boucher revoked the deferred imposition and sentenced him to three years with the state Department of Corrections, all suspended.

The Hill County Attorney’s Office filed March 10 of this year a petition to revoke the suspended sentence with allegations he violated conditions of his release including being unemployed, changing his residence without notice, failing to report to probation officers and failure to pay fees and restitution.

June 23, state District Judge Kaydee Snipes Ruiz, who assumed jurisdiction over the case after Boucher retired, found the state had proven seven allegations.

Last Monday, she revoked Dahl’s suspended sentence and reimposed it.

If Dahl had abided by all conditions of his release in the deferred imposition of sentence, after the deferral he could have petitioned to have the felony struck from his record.
