Hi-Line Football: Harlem wins again, Pioneers roll at home

Hi-Line Football Roundup

Two weeks, two wins. That’s called a winning streak and the Harlem Wildcats are on one.

After opening the season with their first win in three years, Harlem faced off against rival Wolf Point at home Friday night, and the Wildcats made it 2-for-2 with a 34-21 win on their home field.

Once again, Andrew Rasmussen was a star on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats, who are now 2-0 in the Northern B.

Harlem is on the road this weekend, traveling to Rooundup.

Big Sandy 68, Box Elder 13

Another Friday night, another dominant win for the Big Sandy Pioneers.

Ranked No. 1 in Six-Man football, the Pioneers crushed the Box Elder Bears, 68-13 in a Six-Man North game Friday in Big Sandy.

Kade Strutz threw a TD and rushed for another, but the Pioneers also got two 75-yard kickoff returns for scores from Cooper Taylor on the night.

Big Sandy, which led 43-0 at halftime, improved to 3-0 on the season. The Pioneers visit Heart Butte this Saturday.

Box Elder got touchdowns runs from both Kadyn Duran and Gabe Saddler, as the Bears fell to 0-2. Saddler did rush for a game-high 104 yards for the Bears. They will take on Heart Butte next, Sept. 26

Fort Benton 72, Rocky Boy 6

The Fort Benton Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in Class C 8-Man football for a reason, and the Rocky Boy Stars found that out Friday night. In Fort Benton, the Horns crushed the Stars 72-6 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

In the Northern C affair, the Longhorns scored 28 unanswered points in the first quarter, and they tacked on another 30 straight in the third before the mercy rule was in full effect.

Rocky Boy, which slipped to 1-2 on the season, did get 11 completions and 90 yards from quarterback Kellen Colliflower, but the Longhorns picked the young Rocky Boy quarterback off four times on the night. Billy Ullery had two INT returns for touchdowns, while also rushing for another. Hayden Axtmen also scored twice for the Longhorns.

The Longhorns will next play at undefeated Belt this Friday, while the Stars are home to host the Cascade Badgers.

Sunburst 55, North Star 37

Speaking of young teams, the North Star Knights are young this fall, and on the road at Sunburst Saturday, the Knights fell 55-37.

North Star, which fell to 0-3 on the season, fell behind 24-6 after the first quarter and trailed 37-12 after three periods of the Six-Man North rivalry game. From there, though, the Knights’ offense exploded for 25 fourth-quarter points. However, it wasn’t enough as the Knights dropped their third game of the season.

North Star is off until Sept. 25.

CJI and HLP canceled

The Saturday Northern C showdown between the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks and the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds was canceled due to the T-Birds not having enough players to safely play the game. The limited mumber of players was not a COVID-19 issue, however.

The T-Birds hope to return to the field Saturday to host Chinook, which was idle this past week. CJI, which is now 1-1 on the year, will visit Simms Saturday night.
