Hi-Line Volleyball: Big volleyball week for Hi-Line squads

Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

It's hard to believe, but the high school volleyball season reached the halfway point along the Hi-Line last week. And what a busy week of matches it was.

Last Tuesday, North Star opened a big week with a sweep of the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks. The Knights won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20, with Shayla Borlaug racking up seven kills, three blocks and six digs for North Star. Tatum Hull had 12 kills, six blocks, six digs and an ace for CJI.

Tuesday night also saw the Harlem Wildcats lose a heartbreaker to Conrad. In a five-setter, the Wildcats fell by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25 and 15-12, as they nearly pulled off a dramatic 2-0 comeback. Chloe Messerly had 12 kills and Alyanee Hawley tacked on six aces for the Wildcats.

A busy Thursday night saw two of the top teams in the 7C face off when North Star and Chinook hooked up. But it was the Sugarbeeters who were too strong with a 3-0 win over the Knights. Chinook beat North Star by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-7 for a big conference win.

Box Elder was back in 7C action last Thursday, but the Bears were swept by Geraldine-Highwood by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-17, while Fort Benton turned away CJI in a four-setter in conference action. The Longhorns topped the Hawks by scores of 25-9, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-10. CJI put up a strong battle, including another big match from Tatum Hull, but Emerson Giese powered 11 kills past the Hawks, and Abby Clark had six blocks.

CJI was looking to bounce back in the 7C Friday night, but the Hawks fell short, despite another strong effort. Against Geraldine-Highwood, the Hawks fell by scores of 12-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23 in another tough match.

Friday night also saw Chinook and Harlem victorious in non-conference matches.

Back in the 7C Saturday, the Chinook Sugarbeeters were once again victorious, taking care of Centerville to stay in first place. The Beeters beat the Miners by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-14.

Fort Benton also kept pace with two wins over Hays-Lodge Pole Saturday. In the first match, which was a Longhorn 3-0 win, Abby Clark had five kills, while in the seconds 3-0 win for the Longhorns, Ashlee Wang tallied four kills and six assists, while Kylie Danbrook had 10 aces.

Saturday in the 7C also saw North Star beat Big Sandy by scores of 25-20, 35-33 and 25-7 in a wild match. Kenidee Wolery had 33 assists for the Knights in the win, while Alicia Bjornstad had 10 assists and two aces for the Pioneers.
