BOZEMAN — The 2020 Montana and Wyoming Malt Barley and Sugar Beet Symposium has been canceled due to COVID concerns. In its place, educational webinars will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, and Thursday, Jan. 14.
The webinars are hosted by the Mountain States Crop Education Association, or MSCEA, which comprises agriculture industry representatives as well as Montana State University Extension faculty members.
The webinar presentations Jan. 13 will focus on malt barley topics. Howard Neibling, University of Idaho Extension water management engineer, will discuss irrigation management, and Lester Jones, chief economist for the National Beer Wholesalers Association, will provide an industry update.
Webinar presentations Jan. 14 will be related to sugar beets. Rebecca Larson, Western Sugar Cooperative chief scientist and vice president of governmental affairs, will highlight Western Sugar’s sustainability program, and Scott Herndon, vice president and general counsel for the American Sugarbeet Growers Association, will give a sugar beet industry update.

Dates for the next in-person Sugar Beet and Malt Barley Symposium have been set for Jan. 12-13, 2022. The 2022 event will be held at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center.
