Obituary - Donald R. Wiles

Donald R. Wiles, 82, passed away due to natural causes Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Northern Montana Hospital.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Fifth Avenue Christian Church.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Don was born December 27, 1937, in Bartlesville, OK, to Frank and Velma (Cherry) Wiles. Upon his high school graduation, he attended college, receiving a bachelor's degree in education. Don later entered the U.S. Air Force and served until his honorable discharge in 1964.

After his military service, he married and the couple had two children before divorcing.

Don continued teaching in Arizona and Texas for many years before his retirement. After retirement, Don enjoyed traveling, and on one of his trips to Thailand, he met his future wife, Ying. After he left Thailand, they corresponded, and he promised to return to marry her. That he did in 2003, and he brought Ying and her son home to live here in the States.

Don enjoyed trains, and really loved to travel in them. He was fascinated by the plains and spent a great deal of time exploring the history and museums that touched on that subject.

He enjoyed Don Greytak calendars, and sent his close friends and family one every Christmas. Don also enjoyed writing, and was in the process of writing a book that he had been working on for years.

He and Ying loved the Grateful Bread and would go every Saturday morning for coffee and cinnamon rolls. Don was also old school in that he did not have a computer or cell phone. To communicate, he called on the home phone and wrote letters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Velma Wiles.

Don is survived by his wife, Ying Wiles of Havre; children, Mark and Anne Wiles of Texas; stepson, Kan Sriplod of Havre; two grandchildren, Kourtney Sriplod and Lori Mallory; and siblings, Bob Wiles of Carson City, NV, and Cherry Kapell of San Jose, CA.
