Obituary - Ronald James Swan

Ronald James Swan of Rocky Boy, Montana, 71, died on October 27, 2020, at Northern Montana Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. today, October 29, 2020, in Highland Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Ron was born January 18, 1949, to Charles and Margaret Swan in Fort Belknap, Montana. He attended and graduated high school at Box Elder, later attending college and graduating with a degree in natural resources.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Ron also loved fireworks and had a class B license and held firework displays in Rocky Boy for many years. Ron also was a sports fan and followed the New York Yankees, Raiders and The Griz.

He was employed by the Chippewa Cree Tribe at the Natural Resources Department for numerous years, working in forest development and noxious weeds. He enjoyed driving through the mountains and checking on the trees he planted. He could name off all the trees by their scientific names. He was a noxious weeds expert and would pull over just to show us the weeds.

After retirement, he spent his later years at home working on puzzles and playing Words with Friends on his iPad. He later moved to Sweet Home in Chinook where he had many friends and filled his time with jigsaw puzzles and watching "Gold Rush" on TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Swan, his brother Robert "Bob" Swan, great-granddaughter Mahogany, and his beloved and only son, James Swan.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Leona Swan; daughters, Susan (Kenneth) Hale, Sherri (Mike Thomas) Swan, Rachel (Trent) Harding, Katherine (Joe Weber) Swan, Rose (Evin Carr) Swan, Jamie (Brian) Molina; stepchildren he took as his own, Heather (Charles LaFromboise) Oats, Russell Houle Jr, and Leon Houle; and adopted son, Dustin Webster; his grandchildren, Debra, Kendall, Cedrick, Josiah, Andre, Freedom, Faith, Dallas, Jessica, Tristan, Gabriel, Ashley, Britney, Charlize, Charles, and Zayn; two great grandchildren; siblings Constance Morsette, Kenneth (Luella) Swan, Wayne (Linda) Swan, Davey Swan, and Linda Swan, and numerous friends and relatives.
