Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

Bread

You know, Lord, sometimes when we're hungry, memory kicks in and a scent seems to drift by us, makes us think of our mommy baking bread. Yum! Our mom was the best baker in our neighborhood - just ask any of the neighbors! Even when Mom's sisters would visit us once in a blue moon, they'd tell Mom that the bread she made tasted so good; "Just like their own dear mother made; so, could I please have another slice?"

Miniature loaves of zucchini bread that an out-of-town friend brought over to share - that was a double yum! Another friend tells about making banana bread to which she adds some pumpkin! Small loaves of rhubarb bread are very tasty; better yet, make rhubarb muffins. Make some dilly sour cream bread; bake in a large loaf, it's very good, also!

The best bread story is written in John 6. That must have been an awesome experience, being one of the 5,000 people listening to You, Jesus, and then being so very hungry but where to go to eat? You, to the rescue, Lord, as You perform a great miracle and fed them all - using five loaves and two fishes. How thrilled they must have been.

Though that story is about social needs, You, Lord, were talking about something more important, our spiritual need for You, our inborn hunger for God. We cannot be satisfied with anything less than You, Lord, for You alone can supply the bread which satisfies our inner longing in our soul and the hunger in our heart.  Reading Your Holy Word, we can not miss that You, Lord, are the Bread of Life as stated in John 6:51, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven ... ." Lord, we thank You for satisfying the yearnings deep within our hearts, that Your presence fulfills the needs of our souls.

Love, Mara
