COVID confirmations down in region but still coming in high throughout state

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has dropped in this part of Montana, though it still is higher than health officials hope for, and numbers continue to roll in throughout the state, straining resources.

Local, state and medical officials are urging people to follow recommendations to slow the spread of the virus during the holiday season, including keeping gatherings small or nonexistent, people not going out of their homes unless it is essential and that anyone going out in public wears a mask to reduce their spreading the virus if they have been infected without knowing it.

Deaths continue to mount as well. Blaine County reported another COVID-19-related death Wednesday evening, bringing the total in that county to 19 deaths.

Hill County has reported 31 deaths, while Chouteau County has three COVID-19-related deaths and Liberty County has one.

The state has listed 653 COVID-19-related deaths in Montana so far.

Data from Thursday, the national Thanksgiving holiday, was not available from Hill and Blaine county health departments, but the departments reported Wednesday evening four new cases in Blaine County with 42 active cases and thee hospitalizations, while Hill County reported 21 new cases with 242 active cases and six hospitalizations.

Hill County, since the start of the pandemic, had 1,302 total cases and Blaine County had 509 total.

Chouteau and LIberty counties had relatively low numbers until the last few months, but their numbers, and deaths, also are mounting.

The state tracking map Thursday reported two new cases in Chouteau County with 57 active cases and three deaths. Its total number of cases was at 271.

Liberty County had three new cases with 33 active and one death. Its cumulative total was 82.

The map listing the state tracking of COVID-19 Thursday showed 1,045 new cases confirmed in Montana Wednesday. The cumulative total for the state at that time was listed as 59,796 with 15,947 active cases and 452 active hospitalizations.
