While our stacks are currently closed to the public, you can still check out books. Here are some of our newest titles.

New Fiction

“Fortune and Glory” by Janet Evanovich. This is book 27 in her Stephanie Plum series. When Stephanie’s beloved Grandma Mazur’s new husband died on their wedding night, the only thing he left her was a beat-up old easy chair … and the keys to a life-changing fortune.

“A Time for Mercy” by John Grisham. Clanton, Mississpi, 1990, Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy.

“Return” by Nicholas Sparks. Trevor Benson never intended to move back to New Bern, North Carolina. But when a mortar blast outside the hospital where he worked as an orthopedic surgeon sent him home from Afghanistan with devastating injuries, he comes to regroup in the dilapidated cabin inherited from his grandfather.

“Book of Two Ways” by Jodi Picoult. Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She’s on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: prepare for crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband, but of a man she last saw 15 years ago; Wyatt Armstrong.

“Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman. From the author of “A Man Called Ove” comes a poignant comedy about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.

New Non-Fiction

“The Zealot and the Emancipator: John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, and the Struggle for American Freedom” by H.W. Brands. The epic struggle over slavery as embodied by John Brown and Abraham Lincoln, two men with radically different views on how moral people must act when their democracy countenances evil.

“The Quiet Americans: Four CIA Spies at the of the Cold War — A Tragedy in Three Acts” by Scott Anderson. A gripping history of the early years of the Cold War, the CIA’s covert battles against communism, and the tragic consequences which still affect America and the world today.

“Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life” by Christie Tate. The refreshingly original debut memoir of a guarded, over-achieving, self-lacerating young lawyer who reluctantly agrees to get psychologically and emotionally naked in a room of six complete strangers — her psychotherapy group — and in turn finds human connection, and herself.

“The Hidden Habits of Genius: Beyond Talent, IQ, and Grit — Unlocking the Secrets of Greatness” by Craig M. Wright. Professor Craig Wright, creator of Yale University’s popular “Genius Course,” reveals what he has learned from more than two decades of studying what made people like Einstein, Marie Curie, Beethoven and Steve Jobs tick.

New Children’s Books

The Children’s Library welcomes 59 titles including these great books.

“Construction Site Mission: Demolition” by Sherri Duskey Rinker. The latest picture book featuring the adorable heavy machinery from Goodnight Construction Site. This story is about working together, breaking things down, and cleaning it up at the end of the day. (E RIN)

“Jules vs. the Ocean” by Jessie Sima. From the author of “Not Quite A Narwhal.” This is the story of a little girl determined to impress her older sister. (E SIM) 

We also have some wonderful juvenile fiction books.

“Ragweed and Poppy” by Avi. The previously untold story of how the mice first met. A middle grade chapter book. (J AVI)

“Seance Tea Party” by Reimena Yee. Lora is determined to have fun even when her other friends find new more mature interests. A magical tea party introduces Lora to Alexa, the ghost that haunts her house. A middle grade graphic novel. (J YEE)

Don’t worry, Non-fiction didn’t get left out.

“Plasticus Maritimus: An Invasive Species” by Ana Pego. Backed by extensive research, this book explains how plastics are more present in our waters than ever. Middle grade chapter book. (J 363.7)

“Queen of Tejano Music: Selena” by Silvia Lopez. This beautifully illustrated biography examines the life of Selena Quintanilla, a successful female singer in a genre dominated by men. (E-B SELENA)

New Young Adult Books

Rick Riordan’s latest, “The Tower of Nero,” is the fifth book in his Trials of Apollo series. Readers follow Apollo, once an immortal god, as he works to regain his Olympian status. That’s right, Apollo is now mortal. After angering Zeus, Apollo is punished by being made human; a teenage boy named Lester. 

“Furia” by Yamile Saied Mendez, is an own voices story that follows Camila as she navigates playing soccer, young love and family turmoil in Argentina. Readers can expect a coming-of-age story with authentic details of day-to-day life in Argentina.  

Tracy Deonn’s debut novel, “Legendborn,” is the first in a new series. This contemporary fantasy mixes history and magic as 16-year-old Bree witnesses a magical attack at her new school. Readers can expect to explore secret societies, southern magic and even King Aruthur.

Stephenie Meyer is also back with her latest take on the “Twilight” saga. “Midnight Sun,” however, it is told from the very beginning, but now it’s Edward Cullen’s perspective. Edward, as many remember, is the sparkling vampire who fell in love with Bella Swan. If you wanted to know what he was thinking, this book is your chance.
