CJI Speech Finishes 4th at Three Forks Meet

By Rhonda Petersen

The CJI Speech team fielded its smallest team of the 2020-2021 season at the Three Forks Virtual meet but still managed a fourth-place finish.

Senior Emma Wickum, a four-year speech participant, led the way for the Hawks by finishing second in extemporaneous speaking. Wickum scored two ones in preliminary rounds before finishing second after the finals round. The only participant Wickum lost to was the defending state champion from Three Forks.

Senior Cain Cole, another four-year speech participant, scored a one in his first preliminary round and emerged from finals in fourth place in memorized public address.

Junior Azeria McIntosh participated in one of the largest events at the meet, spontaneous oral interpretation of literature. McIntosh lost a tiebreaker for the 16th and final spot in semi-finals for SPOI.   McIntosh, a first-year speech participant, continues to improve each and every week.

The Hawks were missing freshman informative speaker Martin Fulbright this week due to a previous commitment.

The CJI Hawks next compete at the Great Falls Central Virtual Speech Meet Saturday, Jan. 16, before hosting the virtual Northern BC Divisional Tournament Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Hawks will wind up their season at the State BC Tournament hosted by Huntley Project at the end of January.
