Obituary - Kathleen Helen Kaluza March 27, 1935-January 5, 2021

Kathleen Helen Kaluza passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Great Falls Benefis Hospital. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was 85 years old.

A simple graveside service will be held at Havre Highland Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, where Kathleen will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Archie. At a future date, the family intends to have a memorial service to honor Kathleen in her familiar Catholic tradition.

Kathleen was born March 27, 1935, to Timothy and Margaret Murphy ,who ranched south of Chinook in the Bear's Paw Mountains. She married Arthur "Archie" Anthony Kaluza at Chinook's St. Gabriel Catholic Church at age 21. She taught in various rural schools and St. Jude's Catholic Grade School in Havre while earning a bachelor's degree in education from Northern Montana College. She and Archie relocated to Great Falls following retirement in 1992.

Together, Archie and Kathleen raised six children, sending them all to St. Jude's Catholic Church and school. All earned undergraduate college degrees, and many earned graduate degrees because of their parents' passion for teaching and learning. Kathleen spent many hours lovingly grading papers and tutoring her children in every subject imaginable. She shared her learning passion with her nephews, Tim and Reece Murphy, as well.

Kathleen was active in St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre and continued her faithful devotion onto Corpus Christi Catholic Parish in Great Falls where she taught CCD, brought Eucharist to the sick, and was highly active in Catholic Daughters of America, including two terms as regent. She spent many happy hours as a seamstress and later as a quilter.

The oldest of two children, Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother, Jack; husband, Archie; and son Rocky. Kathleen is survived by children Timothy of Great Falls, Daniel (Susan) of Butte, Andre of Fairfield, Joanie (Rex) Schmidt of Great Falls, and Karl of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Charissa (Tom) Bisch of Butte, Larissa (Vince) Telleria of Everett, WA, Rory Kaluza of Portland, OR, Nellie (Tyler) Sholey of Great Falls, Megan Kaluza of Marina Del Ray, CA and Jacob Schmidt of Great Falls; and five great-grandchildren, Max and Nolan Bisch of Butte, Alekzander and Delilah Sholey of Great Falls, and Sebastian Telleria of Everett, WA.
