Ice Hawks split in Idaho, host Helena this weekend

The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team didn’t just have another pair of road games this weekend, they went to a completely different state to play them.

The Ice Hawks visited Salmon, Idaho, this past weekend, where they split with the Rapids, falling 6-1 Saturday night, but coming right back to win 3-2 Sunday morning.

In Havre’s win, Michael Emge got things started with a first-period goal on assists from Tavish McLean and Theron Peterson. Salmon, however, closed the period with a 2-1 lead. In the second frame Jacob Herring scored on assists from Emge and Peterson, and later, Ciaran Courtnage scored what would be the game winner, with assists from Jocelyn Staples and Justin Rosgaard.

In the victory, the Ice Hawks had 24 shots on goal, while goalie Clara Holland saved 23-of-25 shots by the Rapids.

Saturday night’s game, though, was a different story. The Rapids converted six of their 24 shots on goal, with two in the first period and four in the second. Down 6-0, Havre answered with a goal from Jared Rosgaard on assists from brother Justin and Bryce Shettel, but that was all the Ice Hawks could muster offensively.

Still, the road split left Havre with a 4-8 record. The Ice Hawks are set to play their final home games of the regular season this weekend when they host the Helena Bighorns Friday and Saturday inside the Havre Ice Dome.
