Saturday, Jan. 16, the CJI Hawks Speech team competed at the Great Falls Central BC Virtual Meet. The Hawks had three speakers compete. The Hawks were missing junior Azeria McIntosh.

Senior Emma Wickum once again led the way for the Hawks. Wickum scored two ones in preliminary extemporameous speaking rounds to go into finals in first place. After the final round, Wickum ended up in second place for the fourth time this season.

Cain Cole scored a one in preliminary rounds and went into memorized public address finals in fourth place. After a very competitive final round, Cole emerged from finals in sixth place.

Martin Fulbright competed in informative speaking but did not break into finals.

As a team, the Hawks finished fifth behind Twin Bridges, Harlowton, Gardiner, and White Sulphur Springs.

The Hawks hope to field a complete team this weekend at the Northern BC Divisional Tournament. The Northern BC Tournament determines which speakers qualify for the BC State Tournament at the end of the month. Both the Northern BC Divisional Tournament and the BC State Tournament will be conducted virtually.
