Havre school board starts search for new superintendent

Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees has started the search for its next permanent superintendent.

The school board selected Montana School Boards Association to conduct a search to find applicants for the superintendent role for Havre Public Schools.

Long-time Superintendent Andy Carlson resigned in June, and his assistant superintendent, Craig Mueller, accepted the position of interim superintendent effective July 1.

Mueller gave the board his letter of notification Monday during a special board meeting, stating that he will not seek reemployment as superintendent for the 2021-2022 academic year. The board accepted the letter with a unanimous vote.

Mueller said that he is not leaving with ill feelings towards the board or HPS staff but feels that the position was not the right fit for him.

He said he intends to return to his position as assistant superintendent and looks forward to supporting the district through his work there.
