After an exciting first weekend of volleyball, the Montana State University-Northern Skylights remembered how tough road matches are in the Frontier Conference.
Friday night, the Skylights fell at Montana Tech, by scores of 27-25, 25-14 and 25-13. The first set was a tight one, but Tech roiled from there. Rylee Burmester led Northern with 13 kills and six digs, while Katie Murdock had 10 digs and Emily Feller tallied 19 assists.
Things didn’t get any easier for the Skylights Saturday afternoon in the rematch, as the Orediggers again won by a sweep. This time, Northern fell to Tech by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-18 as Tech hit a sizzling .293, had 36 kills and also tallied an impressive 11 blocks on the other side of the net.
Freshman Alana Graves continued to impress for the Skylights, with 10 kills and seven digs. Overall though, Northern really struggled offensively, hitting -.022 while totaling just 24 kills.
Northern will remain on the road for matches at Carroll College this coming weekend before returning home to host the Providence Argos Feb. 19-20.
