Havre Public School board accepts Adams's resignation

Search for new member begins immediately

The Havre Public School Board of Trustees during a special meeting Monday accepted the resignation of Trustee Scott Adams effective immediately, and announced that it will start accepting applications for the position.

Adams was appointed in December of last year to the position previously held by Brian Williams, who resigned from the board due to his move away from Havre.

Board Chair Aileen Couch said she spoke with Havre Public Schools’ legal advisor, who told her that they should begin the search for a replacement as soon as possible.

She said it was recommended that they get the position filled with enough time so that the appointee can file for the position in the upcoming election.

The board determined that closing applications next Tuesday, March 9, at noon should provide sufficient time for them to review applications at their normal board meeting that evening and set up interviews while still giving enough time for the one they chose to file for the election.

Couch said she was also told that they could put some questions they would normally ask in the interview in the request for letters of interest so as to expedite the process, especially if more people than expected apply.

Board members, concerned with the idea of potentially getting six or more applicants, decided that they would review applications at the March 9 evening meeting, and would likely set up interviews March 11.

The board said an official advertisement for the board position will appear in the Havre Daily News Wednesday.

Due to the proximity to the deadline for filing for the election, the board had to temporarily suspend their normal procedures for finding and appointing trustees. The suspension will only apply to this case and was voted for unanimously.
