Hill County COVID vaccinations continuing

Vaccinations continue in Hill County after a small spike in COVID-19 cases, and Hill County Commissioner Mark Peterson said during a Hill County Board of Health meeting Friday that the board hold a special meeting in the Hill County Courthouse Annex at noon today to discuss the mask mandate.

In the COVID-19 update, Friday Hill County Public Health Director and Health Officer Kim Larson said, as of 10 a.m. that day, the county only had 11 active cases of COVID-19, which was very exciting for the department.

She said the week of March 1 to March 7 the county saw 19.93 new cases per day per 100,000 residents, which was a spike, but a very small one, and between Monday and Thursday of last week the county only saw 1.5 new cases per day per 100,000.

Larson said vaccination is proceeding steadily with almost 4,000 first doses administered by the department and 2,200 people fully immunized.

She said 30 percent of the eligible population has received one dose and about 17 percent are fully immunized.

She said Hill County cannot go into Phase 1C of the vaccine rollout until the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services gives the OK, but the Hill County Health Department is constructing a waiting list.

Larson said people can be put on that waiting list, which has about 250 people on it, by calling 400-2369.

She said the department also received 100 doses of the recently-authorized one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. She said 90 went to Gary & Leo’s Health Mart, and Northern Montana Health Care got the other 10.

Larson said the vaccine was offered to Walmart’s pharmacy which declined, and Western Drug Pharmacy gets vaccine through the federal government and follows a different plan, so people should call them for more details if they are interested.

She said the vaccines at Gary & Leo’s and the hospital are already gone but the state anticipates they will be able to provide more to the health department at the end of March.

The next COVID-19 update will be on March 26 at 1 p.m.
