The Havre High tennis are going to play a lot of matches this weekend in Glendive. But they also had a stop in Great Falls where, under warm, sunny skies, Havre got plenty of court time against really good competition.

Tuesday in Great Falls, the Havre boys blanked Butte Central 7-0 in the morning before splitting with Class AA rivals CMR and GFH in the afternoon. Havre lost to the Rustlers 5-3, but beat the Bison 7-1. On the girls side, the Maroons beat the young Ponies twice, by scores of 5-2 and 4-3. Havre also fell to powerful CMR 8-0 and GFH 7-1.

Leading the Pony boys once again was the doubles tandem of Josh Warp and Trenton Maloughney, who went 3-0 on the day. Conner McKay and Collin Miller also won twice in doubles, while Josh Currie was 2-1 at No. 1 singles. Havre also got wins from every member of its lineup, including Jared Rosgaard, Carter Spangler and Kendall Pleninger in singles, and Caleb Spangler, and Theron Peterson and Reid Kato and Gavin Hall in doubles.

The veteran doubles team of Grace Crantz and Talia Ralph won a big match against the Bison for the Pony girls, while Kate Hemmer won two singles matches. The doubles teams of McKenzie Mangold and Destiny Hernandez, Chloe Bricker and Courtney Burchard, and Kat Kaftan and Mylee Shennum were also victorious.

“Very proud of our kids,” Ferguson said. “It was a long day, with tough competition, and I think all of our kids stepped up, win or lose. We played good tennis. We showed signs of continued improvement, and we took advantage of the opportunities we had. So it was a great day in Great Falls, and our kids were great.”

Havre now heads to the Glendive Invitational Friday and Saturday.
