Lester was born in Havre, on April 1, 1940, to Ferdinand "Fred" and Roscelia (Neumiller) Philippi. He was the youngest of eight children born to the couple. He attended school in Havre and upon graduation joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

After his discharge from the Marines, he moved to Carson City, Nevada, to work as a surveyor with his brother Donnie. Together they worked in the construction industry, building houses for many years.

Lester was true to his April Fool's birth date, always a jokester, happy and full of humorous stories. He enjoyed making people laugh at family events. In any social gathering there was always a story to tell and jokes to share.

Lester was also an excellent billiards player, achieving the status of "pool shark" in and around Havre. It is rumored that he never lost a game of pool; many challengers wagered against him, but Lester's skill on the billiards table was unsurpassed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Roger, Leo and Donnie; sisters Erna and Ann.

Lester is survived by two sisters, Alvera Wickstrom of Havre and Evelyn Enochson of Irving, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Lester's honor may be made to Northern Montana Care Center, 24 13th Street, Havre, MT 59501, or the charity of the donor's choice.
