Suspects apprehended in Fort Belknap stabbing

Staff and wire report

Fort Belknap Indian Community has reported that two suspects in a stabbing Wednesday morning have been apprehended.

The names of the suspects were not being released this morning, a representative of the police department said.

A report posted on the Fort Belknap Indian Community Facebook page said Fort Belknap police officers responded about 7:54 a.m. to an incident on the reservation in its New Town housing area.

The officers found two people who said people from the area had assaulted them, stabbing a male victim and attempting to kidnap both him and the female victim.

They said the suspects had escaped in a vehicle stolen from one of the victims, the report said.

The victims were provided medical treatment.

The report said officers started a pursuit of the stolen vehicle about 11:04 a.m., with the suspects of the stabbing and suspected kidnapping identified as the driver and occupying the vehicle, the release said.

The driver drove the vehicle through construction zones and multiple housing “in a reckless manner and at dangerous speeds,” the report said.

The report said officers were able to get the vehicle stopped near the reservation line south of Lodge Pole and and all suspects were apprehended.

The chief of police and the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council commended the officers involved, with no serious injuries occurring during the apprehension, and “for their professionalism in the way the incident was handled and in keeping the people from Fort Belknap safe from serious harm,” the report said.
