Volunteers spruce up Eagles Club over the weekend

A group of volunteers this past weekend decided to give back to the Havre Eagles Club, painting their back room walls in preparation for the installation of the club's new carpet.

Eagles Auxiliary President Candace Dess said it's rare that the club has a chance to make substantial improvements to their establishment, and rare that volunteer efforts come together so quickly and smoothly.

"We just don't see things like that come together any more," she said.

Dess said she wanted to thank everyone involved including Larry Seely, a retired Eagles member who came up with the idea and presented it to her and Eagles Club Manager Tom Farnham, and offered to pay for the materials and supplies if volunteers could be found.

Adam Michealis another member of the club, and Dess's daughters Kerry, Lacey and Mandy, along with Mandy's boyfriend Jon Currie, and Dess's niece Stacie all helped as well.

"This week they just busted their butts and they got it all done," Dess said.

She said the Eagles Club participates in many fundraisers and donates to many local organizations and it's sometimes easy to forget to take care of the club itself. It's also rare that they have enough money to do anything major, so she was happy when Seely came to her with the idea.

"We haven't been able to spruce up the Eagles for a long time because we do so much fundraising for other things so it was really neat and touched my heart," she said.

Dess said the carpet installation began Monday, but may not be done until later today, but all the signs and pictures should be rehung by now.

She said she really wants people to know that she appreciates how much the community, including club members, care about the building.

"I just wanted to give kudos to our awesome club members and volunteers for stepping up and spending the weekend here helping our club. It's great to see our club members working together for the club's benefit," she said in an email to the Havre Daily News this morning.
