Havre-Hill County Library summer reading in full swing

From Havre-Hill County Library

The Havre-Hill County Library would like to thank everyone who attended our Nature Fest Summer Reading Kick-off event! We had 80 in attendance, and 55 participants signed up. This program was made possible with support from the Friends of the Havre-Hill County Library and a literacy grant from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation. With their help we are also raffling off many prizes at the end of the program, and special prizes for the top three overall readers, and the top reader in each category.

Participating in our events and programming is one of the best ways to support the library. If you are still interested in signing up for Summer Reading, you may do so any time before July 28, which is the last day all the minutes you’ve spent reading and participating in our programs can be reported to us. You can stop by the library — Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. — to sign up in person, submit a Google form via our Facebook page, or call us at 406-265-2123.

The Summer Reading Program is more than just reading. You can earn minutes and raffle entries by playing our activity Bingo sheets, reviewing books you read — or even drawing a picture inspired by the book — and finding and counting the animals in our I spy posters The I spy poster for extra credit is located in the window on the east side of the building; it will be changed every Friday for the duration of the program. If you happen to be out of town or the weather is not cooperating, we will also be posting a copy of the weekly poster to our Facebook page.

If you need a break from the page or the screen, take a look at the Summer Reading Bingo card for activity ideas. Don’t forget to count all of your minutes, whether you took a walk or drew a picture. All of the minutes you spend participating in our programming count toward your overall goal. The minutes you spend tuning into virtual story times on our Facebook page, Monday and Friday at 10:15 a.m. and attending our story time, every Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pepin Park, also count. And they may just help you out with some of your Bingo goals too!

Another activity on the Bingo card happens to be “Go fishing” If you’re hesitant to get your child their own gear, the library has fishing poles and tackle available for checkout as part of the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks loaner program. Or if you don’t find yourself on the lake all that often, imagination is encouraged. Be it dramatic play or the card game “go fish,” all of your efforts count.

All of your efforts will pay off at our end of program Stuffed Animal Pick-Nick at Pepin Park, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30. Derek Hann will perform live music at noon, and you can pick up your certificate of completion and any prizes you’ve won. If you can’t make it to the Pick-Nick, you can pick up your certificate and prizes at the library any time after July 30.

We wish everyone a fun and safe Summer!
