Local Golf Report: Rotary Youth Golf Camp Returns

A year ago, golf was considered one of the safest recreational activities and or sports that people could do during the COVID-19 pandemic. But even it had its limits. And so, like many things, the annual Rotary Youth Golf Camp had to be canceled in 2020 because of COVID.

Now though, like so many things, the camp is back, and it's time to sign up. The 2021 Rotary Youth Golf Camp will run July 6-8 at Prairie Farms Golf Course and is open to ages 8 and up. Cost is $25 per camper and an additional $20 for additional family members. Call the Pro Shop at Prairie to sign up.

Tournament season also continues around the area. Last Saturday the Beaver Creek Golf Course played host to the annual Havre Wrestling Club Scramble. The tournament featured a full slate of squads on what was a beautiful day at BCGC. So congrats to the winning team of former Blue Pony four-time state champion Jase Stokes, along with Jacob LaBrie, Matt Boucher and Chad Rainers. Also, great job to everybody who played, helped organize and helped run the long-standing tournament.

League golf also continues. Prairie Farms men's league started the second half of their season last Tuesday night, with Mother Putters, Duchscher, Kapperud Insurance and Vic's all tying for high team with 20.5 points. Jim Kirkpatrick shot a 2-under 34 for low grosas, while Steve McLain and Larry Tilleman shared low net at 32.5. Last Wednesday night saw Michelob Light get high team with 21.5 points, while Kyle Miller fired a 2-under 34 for low gross and Jim Kato netted a 33.

In ladies league last Thursday at Prairie Farms, the high team honor went to Prairie Farms with 24.5 points. Jenna Jensen, Patti Nault, Renessa Galland and Kristi Peterson made up the team. Jensen was low gross with a 38, while Peterson was low net at 30.

Last Thursday also saw the first half of the regular season in BCGC's men's league come to an end. RJS & Associates, Beaver Creek Golf Course, Parisons, and Vic's earned playoff spots. Last week also saw BCGC take high team with 45 points, while Ryan Callahan and Chris Owens shared low gross at 38, while Dave Rucinskly was low net at 29.

Lastly, the heat is going to be intense this week. I for one love playing golf in the heat, but it's going to be scorching by even my standards. So stay hydrated and take care out on the course everyone!
