Havre Daily News/Colin Thompson Max Spangler hits a shot during Youth Summer Golf League back in 2019. Former Havre High standout golfer Jeremy Jensen is bringing the summer league back after it had to be shelved last year due to the pandemic.

Happy belated Fourth of July to all. Now though, the stretch run of summer is here, and it starts with Rotary Week!

Today through Thursday, Rotary Youth Golf Camp is being held at Prairie Farms Golf Course, and I want to say a quick thank you to Jimmy Kato, Doug Sheppard, and the crew for putting on the camp. It’s a great event for the kids, and it’s big for the future of golf in our area.

Speaking of the future of golf, I also want everyone to know that, Jeremy Jensen is bringing back Youth Summer League Golf. Jensen started it in 2019 but had to postpone it last summer because of COVID. Now though, summer league is back.

Summer League is open to kids grades 6-9 at a cost of $100 per player. It runs every Tuesday from July 13 to Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon and features both instruction and on-course play. The league is limited to the first 20 to sign up, so call the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms ASAP.

And thank you, Jeremy, you’re also doing a great thing for our kids.

Tournament play resumes this weekend with the annual Rotary Blast, while Prairie Farms men’s league will be off. Last week in men’s league, BA Ranch scored 24 points to take high team Tuesday. Both Jeremy and Jeff Jensen tied for low gross, each shooting one-under 35, while Danon Smith was low net at 31. Last Wednesday saw Jeremy shoot a stellar 33 to take low-gross honors, while Barry Zanto was low net with a 31 and D.A. Davidson was high team.

The ladies were off last week for the holiday, but the men played on at Beaver Creek Golf Course. The start of the second half of the season saw Parisons score 47 points to take high-team honors. Kyle Miller fired an even-par 36 for low gross, while Bo Coffman was low net at 47.

Finally, congratulations to Sharnia Hamilton on a hole-in-one at Prairie Farms. Hamilton aced the Par 3 17th hole June 26 from 104 yards out. Great job, Sharnia.
