Ben Woodwick hopes to make grandmother proud

At the Rotary Youth Golf Camp at Prairie Farms Golf Course this week, local youths gathered to hone in and improve their golfing skills. One such youth was Ben Woodwick, who attended the camp Tuesday hoping to get better.

Woodwick has only recently gotten into golf because of his grandmother who took him to the Prairie Farms Golf Course. After a few months, he got the hang of it and the sport began to grow on him.

"Three years ago, she brought me out here and practiced a little bit. A couple months after that, I just started to golf," Woodwick said.

His favorite part about golfing is that he gets to spend more time with his grandmother. It was also his grandmother who wanted him to attend the Rotary Youth Golf Camp this week in order to work on his shortcomings.

"My grandma wanted me to be a little better because I hit and it goes off to the right a little bit," said Woodwick on why he attended the camp.

As a new golfer, Woodwick still has plenty to learn about the sport. He doesn't even have a favorite golfer because he doesn't know any yet. But for now, he is just focused on himself and improving as a golfer. Before he uses the rest of the summer to work on his swing, the Havre Daily News got the chance to ask Woodwick a few questions.

The Rotary Camp is back this year after it was canceled due to COVID-19 last summer. Jim Kato, Doug Sheppard and others put on the camp, which runs through Thursday.

Here are five questions for Woodwick.

HDN: What's your favorite school subject?

Woodwick: "I'm going to have to say English."

HDN: Do you have any favorite hobbies outside of golf?

Woodwick: "Nope other than playing my X Box One - Fortnite, Call of Duty, Rocket League."

HDN: What kind of music do you listen to?

Woodwick: "Country. Luke Combs."

HDN: Do you have a favorite food or snack?

Woodwick: "Favorite food would be cheeseburgers off the grill and snack I would have to say hot Cheetos."

HDN: What's your ideal vacation spot?

Woodwick: "Los Angeles. Never been there, (I've) wanted to live there."
