Local Golf Report: Thank you Jimmy for Rotary Week

From Tee to Green

It was Rotary Week last week, and what a week it was.

First and foremost, I want to say a huge thank you to Jim Kato for putting on the Rotary Youth Golf Camp last week. As the head coach of the Havre High golf program,. I truly appreciate Jim's dedication to youth golf, and it was good too see the camp back this year.

As a local golfer, I also owe Jim and everyone who helped him put on the the annual Rotary Blast Golf Tournament. For years, it's been one of my favorites, and this year was no exception. I had a blast in the Rotary Blast, so thank you Jim, and thank you all who helped put on such a great event.

As for Sunday's tourney, which was an 18-hole, two-person modified stableford, the team of Chad Spangler and Dave Peterson were the overall winners with 16.5 points. They took first in the second flight, while the second-best score of the day went to fourth-flight winners Renessa Galland and Jeff Healy. Matt Hedstrom and Ricky Brown captured the first flight, while Thomas and Haley Kline took first in the third flight.

As usual, the course played really tough, and it was hot and windy, so congrats to everyone who battled. It was a fun weekend, and a great week overall for the Rotary.

Last week saw the Prairie Farms men's league take the week off, while ladies league resumed on Thursday night with Prairie Farms taking high-team honors with 25.5 points. The team was composed of Sarah Spangler, Kristi Peterson, Renessa Galland and Abby Nicholas. Sarah Spangler shot a sizzling even-par 36 for low gross, while Maxine Munson was low net at 32.

Thursday night also saw men's league action at Beaver Creek Golf Course continue.

Mike Seymour fired a one-under 35 for low gross, while Gunnar Aageson was low net at 27. Stockman Bank was high team with 46 points.

Alao, congratulation to Havre's own Kyle Sheppard, who, not long ago, played in the prestigious Whitefish Fourth of July Tournament where he won his flight. Kyle is one of Havre's strongest golfers, and it's cool to see him excel in one of Monmtana's premier amateur tournaments. Good Job Shep!
