Demo derby caps off fair

After a long wait, the Havre Jaycees Demolition Derby finally returned to Havre this past Saturday at the Great Northern Fair's outdoor arena. It had been two years since locals got the chance to witness these cars demolish each other. When the Great Northern Fair finally began, they had to wait even longer as the outdoor arena was occupied by the rodeo for most of the week.

When the derby began at 6 p.m. Saturday, attendees still had to wait a few hours until the main show. In the meantime, they got the chance to enjoy several bump-n-run races. In the stock bump-n-run section, Bobby Vanek took first while Frank Williams and Jason Jessen took second and third respectively behind him. In the mod bump-n-run section, Bobby Vanek finished first while Dustin McKinney finished second and Nick Nowak finished third.

The demo derby at the end the day put on a show for the crowd. At the end of the night, Jonny Austin emerged as the 2021 Havre Jaycees Demolition Derby champion after outlasting all his competitors. Chris Moore and his vehicle put up a good fight finishing in second place and Garrison Mitchell had a strong showing as he took third. While Skylar Powell and Jake Brown finished in fourth and fifth respectively, their participation helped make the demo derby entertaining.

The return of the Havre Jaycees Demolition Derby along with the rest of the Great Northern Fair was a welcome sight for locals and other fair attendees after a year of being cooped up. With the return of all the things that people took for granted, people are ready to get back out and take part in them.
