Summer golf hits the stretch run

One final reminder that Blue Pony golf will begin next Thursday. Anyone planning on participating in golf must have a sports physical completed before the first day of the new season.

While high school golf tournaments will begin soon, including the Havre Invitational, which will be held at both Prairie Farms Golf Course and Beaver Creek Golf Course, summer tournaments and leagues are starting to wind down.

Last weekend was a big one at Prairie Farms as the Waddell & Reed Duel on the Prairie was held Saturday and Sunday. The member-guest format, which was played as alternate shot Saturday and better ball Sunday is one of the newer tournaments on the circuit, and was once again very well-attended.

First and foremost, a big thank you to Jeremy Jensen, Willard Fladager and all of you who helped make such a great golf even possible. It was an awesome two days.

I gotta also say a quick thanks to my playing partner and great friend Brett Gilman for coming home to play with me. I had a blast, Brett, I know everybody was so happy to see you back on the course at Prairie, and next year, I promise we’ll get a bed for you at the Hotel Fergie.

Lastly, congrats to the overall winners Sunday. Blue Pony golf legends Nick Obie and Kevin Harada were the gross champions, after shooting 7-under par Sunday. Paige Henderson and Tim McLean and Kyle Miller and Ryan Callahan also took home net honors, as well.

In men’s league at Prairie Farms last week, Duchscher Kapperud Insurance had high team while Kyle Sheppard and Jordy Donoven each shared low gross with stellar rounds of 3-under par 33. Jake Myers was low net with a 34. Sheppard also shot a 37 Wednesday to earn low gross, while Pete Steinmetz was low net at 31 and Michelob Light was high team.

There are just two more weeks left in the men’s regular season at Prairie Farms.

There are also a couple of exciting tournaments the horizon, as well, both on Aug. 14. At BCGC, the Frank Henry Memorial Golf Tournament will be held. It will be a four-person scramble. Contact the Pro Shop at BCGC for more info. That same day, the first-ever HYBA Curveball Golf Scramble will be held at Prairie Farms. Contact Patch Wirtzberger at 399-0619 to register.
