Obituary - Robert P. "Bob" Blazer

Robert P. "Bob" Blazer, 85, passed away at his home due to natural causes on Monday, August 9, 2021.

Cremation has taken place, and at Bob's request, no public services will be held; however, a private memorial service will be held for family and close friends at later date.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Bob was born on August 24, 1935, in Oakes, ND, to Ira and Marcella (McNerney) Blazer. He was raised in Oakes, attending St. Charles Catholic School and graduated from Oakes High School in 1954.

While in high school, Bob began working at the local bakery. He worked his way up to the head baker in a short period of time. Upon graduating from high school, Bob accepted a position as the head baker of the local bakery in nearby Jamestown, ND until his high school sweetheart graduated, while also serving in the North Dakota National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

In May of 1956, Bob married Pat Fuller, and the couple soon moved to Havre, Montana, where he accepted a position as the head baker at the Ideal Bakery. He worked for the Ideal Bakery for five years, and then as a route salesman for Eddy's Bakery for the next 22 years.

The couple had two children, Robert Allen and Steve Patrick.

In 1968, the couple purchased the Hi Way Grocery on Havre's north side. They owned and operated it until their retirement in 1997. They truly enjoyed building their business and developing long-lasting friendships with their customers.

Bob was an outgoing man and energetic man and enjoyed many activities. He was an avid and accomplished bowler. He enjoyed the competition of league bowling and participated in several State and National bowling events throughout the years. He enjoyed slow-pitch softball, snowmobiling, hunting, and playing tennis with his sons. Upon retiring, Bob took up his real passion, the game of golf, spending countless hours at the Beaver Creek Golf Course. He was an active Eagles member for 50 years and an original founding member of the Optimist Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Marcella Blazer; sisters, Pat and an infant Ernestine; and brothers Richard, Donald and an infant William.

Bob is survived by Pat Blazer, his wife of 65 years; sons, Robert (Dawn) Blazer of Pleasanton, CA, and Steve (Svitlana) Blazer of Kalispell, MT; six grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen, Jared, Jeffrey, Brennan, and Kiera Blazer; brothers Larry (Sharon) Blazer of Denver, CO, and James (Pat) Blazer of Henderson, CO; sister, Deborah Blazer of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
