Northern cross country teams finish fourth

Coming off a 2020 season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Montana State University-Northern cross country teams hope for a more normal season this fall. After a long wait, the Lights and Skylights finally got back on the course Monday when they competed at the Frontier Conference Preview in Dillon. At the meet, both the men's and women's teams finished fourth.

The men's team finished fourth with a team score of 2:28:05.80. Carroll College won the men's meet with a team score of 2:21:44.90. Coming off a season where he competed in the NAIA Nationals, senior Field Soosloff began his year with a fourth-place finish with a time of 27:57.50. Jackson Wilson of Rocky Mountain College won the men's meet with a finish of 26:48.20.

Liam Baez-Terry finished in 13th place with a time of 29:00.50. Michael Irvine took 19th place with a time of 29:32.70. Brady Albus finished with a time of 30:43.80 for 20th place and Jaden Koon took 21st with a time of 30:51.50. August Spottedwolf and Eddie Harmon came in 26th and 27th place for the Lights.

The MSU-N women's team also came in fourth in their meet with a time of 1:57:41.70. Carroll College also won that meet with a team score of 1:40:47.50. The highest finish for the Skylights came from Allison Tigert with a finish of 20:39.40 for 11th place. Becca Richtman of Montana Tech took first with a time of 18:43.20.

Grace Schwenk came in 18th place with a finish of 22:39.8. In their first meet as Skylights, former Havre High runners Hannah Haslem and Tamera O'Leary finished in 20th and 21st place. Brooke Holland took 25th with a finish of 28:33.4

The MSU-N cross country teams will next run at the University of Montana Open in Missoula on Sept. 24.
